When the 28 new students arrived on campus, the Daraja Family was complete for the first time since the school opened in 2009.  The new girls received a rock-star welcome, hugging and excitement from their new sisters as they entered the Daraja gate for the first time.

For most of the new students life at Daraja will be very different from their lives back home. With running water and electricity, and three daily meals prepared for them, the girls will find themselves  in ideal learning conditions for the first time.

However, before the hard-work and studying, the new students and their older sisters were treated to a weekend of fun and games.  Students got to know each other playing name games, participating in relay races with their teachers, and putting on skits.

Looking to the Future

“When one door closes another one opens,” Hadija (Form 4) told her fellow classmates, encouraging them to look ahead to their bright futures as Daraja Girls and leave behind hardships from their past. Principal Mr. D provided words of advice as well. “Live in the moment,” he said, as he reminded the new arrivals to take life at Daraja seriously, so as not to waste this precious opportunity.

Over the next few months, the shy, Form 1 students will be given the opportunity to invest in themselves both academically and as leaders.  We look forward to seeing how these girls grow in the next four years! Thank you all for making this possible. We are all one big family growing together.
