The Daraja Academy W.I.S.H. class is a 4-year empowerment course designed to cultivate community leaders and self-sufficient agents of change
Taught weekly over each student’s tenure at the school, the W.I.S.H. program is divided into two focus areas. A 2-year focus on Inward Reflection teaches the girls to identify and understand their individual strengths, build self-esteem, and deal with traumatic issues from the past. The following 2-years focuses on Outward Facing Skills and helps girls understand their identity in relation to the world and the role they can play as leaders in their communities. It encourages student self-sufficiency and active engagement. Girls attend classes in sex education, public speaking, and career and leadership development.
W.I.S.H. is steeped in peace building methodology and human rights education. The class invites a wide variety of accomplished women from the community to speak and serve as examples of educated female Kenyan role models.
