Daraja Academy was inspired and founded in the same era that the Kenyan government committed to advancing the country’s educational system and opportunities. Here is how Daraja Academy has advanced alongside Kenya’s educational system over the years:

Kenyan government starts providing free primary education for all.

Jenni and Jason Doherty visit Kenya and decide to build a secondary school for girls after witnessing first-hand the intense need for such a program.

The Kenyan government starts providing tuition-free secondary education for all – but unfortunately hidden costs such as transportation, uniforms, and familial obligations still made secondary education prohibitive to many.

Daraja Academy welcomes its first class of 26 students to campus in February.

Kenya has now halved their population of children who were out of school to 1 million, but despite this progress they still remain in the top 10 worst countries worldwide for student enrollment.

Daraja’s pioneer class graduates from secondary school!

The number of girls matriculating to Kenyan universities and colleges rises by over 30%, with 100,000+ girls now attending.

For the first time, 100% of Daraja Academy’s graduating class achieves the qualifying KCSE (Kenya certificate of Secondary Education) exam scores to gain government loans for college.

Daraja’s pioneer class of students is graduating from university this year! Congratulations to them all!

Daraja Academy is so proud to be one of many incredible schools in Kenya dedicated to the alleviation of poverty through the advancement of education!
